With summer just around the corner, the Hawkeyes have remained hot on the recruiting trail.
Even though the program recently missed out on 2027 elite athlete prospect Lundon Hampton, that has not slowed down the recruiting train. The 2027 class is shaping up nicely, but there is still plenty of work to do in the 2028 recruiting class.
The program currently has no committed prospects in the 2028 class, but with plenty of time remaining, they have been ramping up efforts to find that first commit. A speedster who is already ranked as a four-star prospect has gotten the attention of the coaching staff, and it's easy to see why.
Logan Thompson's elite speed, athleticism has moved him up recruiting boards
It is still very early in his recruiting process, but wide receiver/defensive back Logan Thompson is steadily racking up offers.
Extremely Blessed to receive an Offer from the University of Iowa! @CoachBudmayr @AllenTrieu @CoachReedLive @ChadSimmons_ @Jerrystan08 @CoachGeorge67 @AlthoffFootball pic.twitter.com/uUGLQOaeWZ

As a sophomore at Althoff Catholic High School last season, Thompson showcased his versatility by lining up at both wide receiver and defensive back. He is a blur on the football field, able to blow by defenders on offense and special teams and keep up with wide receivers on defense.
Thompson thanked Jon Budmayr in his post on social media, signaling the Hawkeyes are keeping options open to play him on either side of the football. Thompson's speed is one of his biggest assets, but he also displayed good ball skills and catching ability.
His versatility has allowed him to climb up the rankings, and Iowa could easily use him on either side of the football and on special teams. Get Thompson the football in space and watch him fly!
After receiving an offer from the Hawkeyes, Thompson now has 12 total offers, including from rivals Iowa State and Wisconsin. Iowa has had success recruiting in Illinois, and hopefully that trend continues with Thompson.
If Thompson heads to Iowa City, he can make an immediate impact on special teams with his speed and vision, and it will be interesting to see which side of the ball he lines up on.
247Sports currently ranks Thompson as a four-star prospect, Illinois' No. 4 prospect, the No. 4 overall cornerback prospect, and the No. 43 overall prospect in the 2028 recruiting class.
