If there is one thing Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz loves more than recruiting multi-sport athletes, it is recruiting legacy players.
Fernetz is in year No. 27 with the Iowa program as head coach, and has coached multiple players who ended up in the NFL.
Ferentz has a specific type of player that he recruits, and what better way to continue the standard than to recruit sons of former players who have already played in the system?
Not only do most former players' sons turn out to be solid players themselves, but they are well aware of the standard that Ferentz and the Iowa coaching staff is trying to uphold.
A few sons of former players currently on the Iowa roster include Iose Epenesa (son of Epe Epenesa), Jayden Montgomery (son of Jerry Montgomery), and Mason Woods (son of LeVar Woods).
At the end of last week, the Hawkeyes attempted to sign another son of a former player, offering 2028 two-way athlete Grant Bowen.

Bowen, the son of former Hawkeye safety and seven-year NFL veteran Matt Bowen, announced he received an offer from the University of Iowa.
Bowen is a two-way star for Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Elmhurst, Illinois, playing linebacker, tight end, and wide receiver.
According to the "Hawkeyes Wire," Bowen has nearly 400 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on offense through the first five games of the 2025 season for the varsity squad.
He also has 18 tackles and one interception on defense.
Bowen is currently an unranked prospect in the 2028 recruiting class, but holds offers from Illinois, Iowa, Northwestern, and Purdue.
