Iowa Football SHOCKED the college football world by leaping into the top 20 of the first College Football Playoff rankings.
The Hawkeyes were idle last weekend, having their second and final bye week of the 2025-2026 season, and received the best news they could have without winning a game.
Iowa started a three-game winning streak heading into the bye with a dominating 37-0 victory over rival Wisconsin in the battle for the Heartland Trophy.
In their second game of the winning streak, the Hawkeyes faced a tough Penn State squad that was looking to get back on track. Iowa started slow, but made a late comeback to take a 25-24 win.
In their final game before the bye week, the Hawkeyes once again dominated a rival, taking down Minnesota 41-3 at home.
Coming out of the bye week, the Hawkeyes were only preparing for a challenging Oregon squad, not at top 20 showdown between two ranked teams.
After the CFP Bracket was revealed, Iowa fans had all sorts of reactions to becoming the No. 20 overall team.

Hope we can keep it up!
Go hawks!
Some Hawkeye fans are ecstatic that Iowa finally made a top 25 poll and are happy that some respect is finally being given to this scrappy squad.
Back.

Iowa Football is back, indeed.
Iowa is ranked 20 where we belong. The Committee recognizes that we have paired a functioning offense with our dominant defense for once.

It has been many years since the Hawkeyes have been stout in all three phases of the game simultaneously, and even without a ranked win on the schedule, the committee is giving Iowa a top-20 spot in the rankings.
Iowa will still have plenty of doubters going into this weekend's ranked matchup, and the best thing they can do is take care of business against Oregon, effectively throwing a monkey wrench into the College Football Playoff picture.
