Congratulations, Iowa fans, you have officially gotten what you wanted as Cade McNamara has made himself comfortable on the bench, and backup quarterback Brendan Sullivan is in the game.

After throwing a pick-six just yards in front of the endzone, McNamara did not come back onto the field on the next Iowa drive. Sullivan trotted onto the field to roaring applause as fans have been lobbying for McNamara's benching all season long.

The Hawkeyes are down against Northwestern because of that interception returned for a touchdown as the Iowa defense has shown back up this season and is showing everyone why they have been dominant this season.

There was talk on the broadcast about Sullivan coming in being a scripted part of today's game, but the announcers also said that he was supposed to get just one drive. Sullivan has now been on the field for three straight drives to the delight of Iowa fans.

Fans were happy to no longer be hurt by McNamara on every drive. There haven't been a lot of things to cheer about for the Iowa offense today, so this was big.

This is fair; I think a lot of people would stop watching. Once you make the decision to bench someone like McNamara, you need to stick to your guns.

Sullivan transferred early in the spring to Iowa and fans were happy that the former Northwestern quarterback could come in and try to win the job against McNamara. Now Sullivan is get the most plays he has seen this season against his former team, truly full circle.

That was before they saw him play in a Kirk Ferentz offense, so his skill set and the offensive scheme are not a good combination.
