Can we just ban all West Coast games from sports?
Obviously, that is a joke, but in the new era of the Big Ten, the Pacific Time Zone has become more of a factor.
With the additions of Oregon, USC, UCLA, and Washington to the Big Ten Conference, teams in the central U.S. or on the East Coast will sometimes get the short end of the stick, and this week, that unique privilege goes to the Hawkeyes.
Iowa and Washington is set to tip off at 10:00 p.m. Central Time
Unless you are a diehard Hawkeyes fan or work non-traditional hours, staying up late on a Wednesday night is hard to do.
Tipoff against Washington will be at 10 pm CT on Wednesday. Keep the coffeemaker on late.

Whether it's coffee or loading up on energy drinks to stay up late, Hawkeye fans are not thrilled about the tip time against Washington.
I'm already loading up on caffeine now
— Brad Schultz (@BradMSchultz) February 2, 2026
In a sentiment echoed by multiple Hawkeye fans, loading up on some type of caffeinated beverage is going to be necessary for Wednesday's game.
Even worse for us east coasters. Such a brutal sports time zone.
— Tyler Schuett (@tyshut) February 2, 2026
11:00 p.m. is definitely worse than 10:00 p.m., and this Iowa fan will have an even more challenging task of potentially staying up until 1:00 a.m. or later.
How is the league allowing a game to start at 11:00 pm eastern? Absurd
— Eldon Whetstone (@eldonfreal) February 3, 2026
Can't say we disagree with Eldon on this one, but with four West Coast teams, it is inevitable that some games will be at challenging times.

It will definitely be a challenge to watch this Iowa game with how late the game could potentially start.
They might as well play this game in Europe

Maybe try and expand the college basketball brand to Europe? Who knows!
