Immediately after Cornhuskers played "Back in Black" at Memorial stadium, their fate was sealed.
The Hawkeyes earned their eighth win of the season after dominating the Cornhuskers 40-16 on the road in Lincoln.
The game looked like it was going to be all Nebraska early, as running back Emmett Johnson torched the Iowa defense.
The Iowa offense always had an answer for a Nebraska score, and following a field goal near the three-minute mark of the second quarter, the defense did not allow another point.
Iowa punched in a late touchdown with under a minute to go to end the first half, and it was all Hawkeyes after that.
After going three-and-out on their first possession of the second half, the Hawkeyes forced a fumble that was recovered in the end zone by Nebraska for a safety, and that started the scoring avalanche for Iowa.
The Hawkeyes added two more touchdowns to put the game well out of reach, and ran the clock out.
The Iowa offense finally stepped up
After a horrendous first three quarters against Michigan State, the Iowa offense found ways to move the ball through the air and on the ground against the suspect Nebraska defense.
During media availability this week, quarterback Mark Gronowski said they were going to pound the rock and take advantage of man coverage on the outside, and they did just that.
The offense finished with 213 rushing yards and 166 passing yards as they employed a balanced attack to dominate Nebraska.
Kamari Moulton finally found the end zone again and added 93 rushing yards, while tight end DJ Vonnahme added 91 receiving yards and a touchdown through the air.
This is the offense we were promised all season!
The defense made great adjustments
After Emmett Johnson got whatever he wanted in the first half, the Iowa defense made great halftime adjustments to slow him down.
Johnson finished with an eye-popping 217 rushing yards and a touchdown, but he did a majority of that damage in the first half.
The Hawkeye defense forced Nebraska to be one-dimensional, and hit quarterback TJ Lateef all day.
Lateef finished the game completing only nine of 24 passes for 69 yards and was on the ground more than he was on his feet.
The Hawkeyes finally put together a complete game on both sides of the ball.
Give it up for the offensive line
After a slow start, the big guys up front showed why they are one of the best units in college football.
Iowa got whatever they wanted on the ground, and Gronowski had time to throw the ball downfield as the Hawkeyes torched the Nebraska defense for 379 total yards.
213 of Iowa's 379 total yards were on the ground as the line created big holes throughout the game.
In a great moment, the entire line was pulled on Iowa's final drive so they could bask in the glory of beating Nebraska by a wide margin.
If this unit doesn't win the Joe Moore Award, then just stop giving it out.
The Hawkeyes are now 8-4 (6-4Big Ten) this season after ending the season on a high note.
