After the 2024-2025 season, Iowa Men's Basketball went into full-rebuild mode. The Hawkeyes finished the season with a 17-16 (7-13 Big Ten) record and missed the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.

After the Hawkeyes failed to advance past the second round of the Big Ten Tournament, Head Coach Fran McCaffery was fired. This caused 12 Hawkeyes to enter the transfer portal (Cooper Koch returned) and three prized prospects to decommit from the program.

New Iowa Men's Basketball Head Coach Ben McCollum has been diligently working to fill the roster before the upcoming season. On Wednesday, the Iowa program lost another player to the transfer portal.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kingsbury announced his decision to enter the portal. He thanked Coach McCaffery and the Iowa faithful for the support he received while playing for the Hawkeyes.

Kingsbury joined the Hawkeyes as a walk-on before the 2021-2022 season. He redshirted during his first season in Iowa City.

During the 2022-2023 season, Kingsbury saw limited action for the Hawkeyes. He tallied seven points, six rebounds, and four assists in eight appearances. After the season, he was named an All-Academic Big Ten Honoree.

Kingsbury saw fewer minutes and appeared in fewer games for the Hawkeyes during the 2023-2024 season. He averaged 1.0 points and 1.4 rebounds in 3.2 minutes per game in five games.

After three years, Kingsbury was given a scholarship for his fourth year (2024-2025). He appeared in a career-high 23 games and averaged 1.1 points and 0.8 rebounds in 7.1 minutes per game.

Before joining the Hawkeyes, Kingsbury was a record-setting performer at Ponca High School in Ponca, Nebraska. He is the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,771 points.

Kingsbury also holds school records for most points in a season (595), career field goals made(577), single-season field goals made(195), free throws made in a season (145), single-season free throw percentage (81.8 percent) and career (78 percent), and three-point field goals made in a game (8), season (64), and career (236).

Carter is the son of former Iowa Basketball player Chris Kingsbury. Chris played for Iowa from 1993 to 1996 before leaving after his junior season to declare for the NBA Draft.
