It was a dream weekend for multiple University of Iowa athletic teams.

Kirk Ferentz and his squad headed to Seattle for a Friday night game against Washington. On Sunday, Iowa baseball battled the Kansas Jayhawks at the iconic Field of Dreams site in Dyersville. Both squads were victorious and dominated our Hawkeyes news roundup for the weekend.

The Hawkeyes had a short week to bounce back after a brutal 31-14 home loss to Ohio State, and they did that and more. Kirl Ferentz had his guys ready to roll, putting to rest any rumors that the program can't win on the East Coast. Iowa rolled past Washington 41-24, and the final score doesn't show how dominant the Hawkeyes were. Aside from a late touchdown scored against Iowa's backups and third-string defense, the offense and defense played extremely well against the Huskies.

The defense held the Huskies to -3 rushing yards by shutting down the run and sacking both Washington quarterbacks a combined six times. The offense looked solid with backup Jeremy Hecklinski under center, and finally got the running game going. The offense totaled 262 rushing yards, led by Kamari Moulton's career-best 208 yards. The Hawkeyes earned a much-needed victory heading into the bye week before the battle for the Floyd of Rosedale in week eight.

Next game: Saturday, October 24 at Minnesota (Minneapolis)

Jeremy Hecklinski has been selected as one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week

Backup quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski earned his first collegiate start with starter Hank Brown nursing a shoulder injury, and he played well. After a slow start, Hecklinski completed his final 12 passes and guided the Hawkeye offense to a big day. The offense tallied 465 total yards, including 202 passing yards from Hecklinski. Hecklinski was poised and confident, making accurate throws downfield and finishing with three passing touchdowns. His three passing touchdowns are the most by a quarterback in his debut since Nate Stanley in 2017, and only the fourth time in the Kirk Ferentz era.

Hecklinski's performance against Washington earned him selection as one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week and will give Kirk Ferentz and the coaching staff something to think about moving forward. Iowa's starting quarterback will be heavily discussed during the bye week, and it will be interesting to see what happens when Iowa battles Minnesota on the road in week eight.

The Hawkeyes closed out their fall exhibition schedule with a game at the iconic Field of Dreams in Dyersville, and it couldn't have gone better for Oklahoma transfer Myles Davis. Davis, a Marion, Iowa, native, started his career at the State College of Florida before transferring to Oklahoma and then Iowa, and he has gotten off to a hot start. Davis led Iowa's offense in a 15-10, 16-inning win over the Kansas Jayhawks, going 2-for-4 with a triple, a grand slam, and a team-leading six runs batted in (RBI).

Transfer Sawyer Stein also had a big day, finishing 2-for-4, with two doubles and two RBI. Jaixen Frost also had a great afternoon, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI.

Iowa used 12 pitchers over 16 innings, combining for 17 strikeouts. Kyle Alivo started the game and struck out three batters in two innings. Maddux Frese, Tate Slagle, Reid Burkle, Will Pierro, and Nick Terhaar all had scoreless innings in the victory. Iowa concluded its fall exhibition schedule and won't return to the diamond until March 12, 2027, against UCLA in Los Angeles.
