Three Iowa athletic programs had busy weekends in the second-to-last weekend in May. Iowa Men's Basketball, Track and Field, and Baseball made headlines during a busy weekend for Hawkeye sports.

Tate Sage officially signs with Iowa Men's Basketball

On April 30, Ben McCollum and the Iowa Men's Basketball program flipped Drake commit Tate Sage. Sage wanted to play for McCollum and transferred to Iowa following his hiring.

Before committing to Drake and flipping to Iowa, Sage was an unranked prospect from Oklahoma. His size and shooting ability make him intriguing.

Sage is listed as a guard but is the size of a forward. He is six feet seven inches tall, weighs 200 pounds, and has an exceptional shooting touch.

Sage might not make an immediate impact in his first season with the Hawkeyes, but he can be a valuable future asset.

Iowa sends 34 athletes to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Preliminaries

The Iowa Hawkeyes are sending 34 athletes (17 men, 17 women) to the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West First Round in College Station, Texas. The NCAA preliminaries take place between May 28 and 31.

Athletes qualify for the preliminaries if they rank in the top 48 in their individual events.

After the preliminaries, the top 12 individual times and the top 12 relay times move onto the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon. The Championships take place between June 11 to 14.

Here is a complete list of Iowa athletes that will take part in the preliminaries.

Iowa Baseball bows out of the Big Ten Tournament

Iowa Baseball entered the Big Ten Tournament as a three-seed following the 2025 regular season. The Hawkeyes finished the regular season on a sour note, losing the final two series and five of six games.

The Hawkeyes escaped Rutgers 4-3 in pool play to automatically qualify for the semifinals. Iowa faced a tall task against the two-seed UCLA Bruins and could not overcome starter Aaron Savary's poor pitching performance.

The Bruins shelled Savary for seven runs (seven earned) in three innings, including a massive five-run fourth inning. The Hawkeyes could only muster three runs on five hits and were knocked out of the tournament.

The Hawkeyes finished their season with a 33-22-1 record and made their tenth consecutive Big Ten Tournament appearance.
