We are 20 days away from Iowa football! The Hawkeyes take the field for the first time during the 2025-2026 season when they welcome UAlbany to Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.

With 20 days left until the start of Iowa Football, we take a look at a new Iowa Hawkeye: defensive back Ty Hudkins.

Hudkins, a sophomore defensive back from Grand Rapids, Michigan, joined the Iowa program following one season with the Purdue Boilermakers.

In his one season with Purdue, Hudkins played in all 12 games, mainly on special teams, and recorded only one tackle all season. His one tackle came during the season opener against Indiana State.

Before committing to the Boilermakers in 2023, Hudkins played defensive back and special teams for Forest Hills Central High School in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

247 Sports ranked Hudkins as a three-star prospect, Michigan's No. 22 overall player and the No. 104 safety prospect in the 2023 recruiting class.

ESPN ranked him as Michigan's No. 18 overall player and the No. 91 safety in the 2023 recruiting class.

During his senior year, he accumulated 98 total tackles, eight pass breakups, and five interceptions. He was also named the AP Michigan Defensive Player of the Year for divisions three and four.

Hudkins helped his team win a state title during his senior year after being the runner-up during his junior year.

Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz has been tight-lipped about who will start for the Hawkeyes this season, so it is unclear what Hudkins' role will be this season.

If he can impress the coaching staff during practices and fall camp, he gives the Iowa defense more depth in the secondary for a team that is desperate to solve its woes in the secondary.
