A legendary college football analyst is calling it a career. Gary Danielson will retire after the 2025 college football season after working 36 years in television. Danielson will complete his 20th season with CBS as the longest-tenured broadcaster.
Danielson began his career with CBS in 2006 as the primary college football analyst on the "SEC on CBS" broadcast with Verne Lundquist. In 2025, the SEC ended their agreement with CBS, and the BIG Ten will take over their signature slot at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Danielson wanted to be a part of the CBS transition to covering the Big Ten over the past few seasons and will retire following the 2025 season.
Starting in 2026, Charles Davis will take over for Danielson as lead college football analyst on CBS. Davis is currently an NFL on CBS analyst.
Davis has been a rising star in broadcasting. He began his career with CBS in 2020 as an NFL analyst. Before working at CBS, Davis started as the lead college football analyst for TBS's coverage of the Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences.
After five years with TBS, Davis moved to Fox as their lead college football analyst. Davis was the analyst for three straight BCS National Championship games (2007-2009), the 2008 Sugar Bowl and the 2009 Orange Bowl.
Gary Danielson is a legendary broadcaster and enjoyed every minute of his time in the booth. After talking with the CBS management team, Danielson has decided to end his career.
