Former Iowa Football star linebacker and captain Jay Higgins was a part of the linebackers group that took the field last for drills on Tuesday night. Day one began with the 40-yard dash, and the expectations were not high coming in for Higgins, so he was out to prove some scouts wrong.

In his first attempt, he ran a 4.82-second 40-yard dash, which was one of the slower times to start. On his second attempt, he ran a 4.88-second 40-yard dash, so he kept his first run. The time he ran fit what he was projected to run.

Higgins is coming off another solid season for the Iowa Hawkeyes Football program, where he had 54 solo tackles, 1 sack, and 4 interceptions. Higgins captained an Iowa defensive squad that had a down year overall, but his leadership and toughness went unmatched.

He is a born leader who has great reaction time and play recognition. What he lacks in speed, he makes up for with tremendous instincts and determination. On the NFL Network broadcast before his run, the announcing team mentioned that he is a tremendous leader who has great toughness and instincts, which can be worked with at the next level.

He was interviewed after his on-field workouts and measurements, and he said he knows he is not the prettiest or most athletic, but he is hard-working and hopes someone takes a chance on him.
