A former Iowa Hawkeyes pitcher has received the call-up to Major League Baseball. Jack Dreyer was notified he was added to the Los Angeles Dodgers' 26-man roster for the Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs. Dreyer pitched for the Hawkeyes from 2017-2020.
Dreyer was undrafted out of Iowa, and the Dodgers signed him as a free agent in 2021.

Dreyer is from Johnston, Iowa, and went on to excel for the Iowa Hawkeyes. The lefty pitcher has been primarily used as a bullpen arm throughout his collegiate and professional career.
The six-foot, two-inch Dryer has three pitches in his arsenal. He throws a fastball, a curveball, and a slider. His fastball sits between 93-95 miles per hour (MPH), and his curveball sits around 80 MPH. Dreyer rarely uses his slider.
During his career in the minor leagues, Dreyer was 10-2, with a 2.18 earned run average (ERA) in 124 innings of work. He also struck out 164 batters. In spring training this year, he had a 3.00 ERA, with 10 strikeouts and one save in six innings.
Dreyer received the call to help the Dodgers' bullpen in their two-game series against the Chicago Cubs to begin the season. The series is being played in Tokyo, Japan, from March 18-19.
The Dodgers won game one of the series 4-1. Star pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto tossed five innings of one-run baseball in the win. Shohei Ohtani had two hits in five at-bats and scored two runs.
Dreyer did not enter game one of the series, but will have a chance to pitch in game two, which begins at 5:10 a.m. Central Time. If you are able to wake up early, you can watch the game on Marquee Sports Network.
UPDATE: Dreyer entered the second game of the series in the fifth inning. He gave up one earned run on two hits, and got his first Major League strikeout!
