Iowa Hawkeyes defensive lineman Yahya Black was in the first group to run the 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL Combine. The massive 6 foot 6 inch, 325-pound former Hawkeye ran in the middle of the group on Thursday, and let's just say it wasn't the fastest time.

I want to preface this by saying Black is a large human being, and for anyone to move that fast at his size is an achievement. His first run clocked in at 5.47 seconds, leaving run for improvement. His second run was faster, clocking in at 5.39 seconds.

He finished near the middle to the bottom of the grouping for other on-field measurements and drills for the day. The physical gifts he possesses will be in high demand, but he will have to overcome a lack of pure fundamentals to succeed.

Black is projected to be an "average backup" at the next level, but he has potential due to his physical prowess. What he lacks in quickness and playmaking ability, is made up for in his ability to take up space in gaps due to his size. He may not be the fastest, but he moves well for his size and can slot in at several positions at the next level if they can harness those physical gifts.
