Former Hawkeye Football star Austin Blythe returns home to take a head coaching position

Former Hawkeye Football star Austin Blythe returns to Iowa to take a head coaching position at his former high school. Blythe played in the NFL for seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Rams, and Seattle Seahawks.

Blythe's last season in the NFL was with the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. He started all 17 games for the Seahawks in his final season.

Blythe returns to the gridiron where he first made a name for himself.

Williamsburg Athletic Director Nathan King announced on X the school was hiring Blythe to be the next Raiders' head coach.

Blythe was a two-time First Team All-State honoree and a three-time All-District honoree at Williamsburg High School. He was also named the Iowa High School Wrestler of the Year by the Iowa Press-Citizen during his senior year (2010).

Blythe joined the Hawkeyes in 2011, but redshirted his first year with the program. In 2012, Blythe was named a First Team Freshman All-American by Scout.com. He started 10 games at right guard for the Hawkeyes.

Blythe was named an Honorable Mention All-Big Ten selection (2013), a Second Team All-Big Ten selection (2014), and a Third Team All-American (2016) during his career with the Hawkeyes.

Blythe was invited to the 2016 Senior Bowl after tallying 49 career starts. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.

Blythe will bring his leadership and experience to the Williamsburg Raider football program for the 2025 season. The Raiders won their first state title in 2023, but lost in the first round of the 3A State Playoffs in 2024.
