Former Iowa Hawkeye pitcher Adam Mazur has had a whirlwind three years. Before transferring to Iowa in 2022, Mazur spent two seasons at South Dakota State.
In his lone season for the Hawkeyes, Mazur was an effective starter. He finished 7-3 with a 3.07 earned run average (ERA) and 98 strikeouts in 93.2 innings (15 starts).
After a solid 2022 season with the Hawkeyes, the San Diego Padres drafted Mazur No. 53 overall in the 2022 MLB Draft. Two seasons after being drafted, Mazur made his Major League debut for the Padres.
In eight starts for the Padres, Mazur compiled a 7.49 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 33.2 innings. Before the 2024 trade deadline, Mazur was shipped to Miami as a part of a package that sent left-handed pitcher Tanner Scott and right-handed pitcher Brian Hoeing.
After spending nearly a year with Miami's Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville, Florida, Mazur got the call to the big leagues and joined Miami for their Wednesday game against the Phillies.

Before making his 2025 MLB debut and getting the start for the Marlins, Mazur had a 3.62 ERA with 55 strikeouts in 59.2 innings for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
Mazur had a solid debut for the Marlins, but struggled with his command. He gave up four runs (four earned) on five hits, with five strikeouts and four walks in 5.2 innings. The Miami offense could only muster two runs, falling to the Phillies 4-2, and handed Mazur the loss.
Mazur's five strikeouts are encouraging, but must improve his command and limit the walks to stick at the big league level.
