Hawkeyes fans are done in Iowa as the team falls to Iowa State, breaking a 14-year streak of beating the Cyclones in Ames. Iowa lost to No. 16 Iowa State 16-13 today for their second straight loss to the Cyclones in what was again an absolutely collapse on offense for the Hawkeyes.

Kirk Ferentz is currently on the brink of breaking the record for most wins by a head coach in the Big Ten, as he needs just one more. Many Iowa fans hoped he would get this week over their hated rival, but instead, Feretnz will have to wait for the record.

Even though Ferentz is one game away from breaking the record, Iowa fans are fed up with the offense and the way this team is going and are ready to use that buyout for a fresh start in Iowa City.

Iowa fans are calling for Kirk Ferentz to be fired

Well, at least this fan just wants him to retire and not be fired in the middle of the season. However, he isn't wrong that the offense has not looked good so far, and there isn't a lot of hope that it will be better either.

The game has changed a lot since Ferentz started coaching at Iowa, and it seems like he hasn't been able to adapt to this new world of college football.

An 8-4 season will never be good enough to get into the College Football Playoff, not with the type of schedule that Iowa plays. So if the Hawkeyes ever want to be able to compete for a National Championship, they might want to seriously consider a change at the head coach position.

It all starts with the head coach, so if Iowa isn't playing well, the first place the finger will be point will be at Ferentz.

Now this is saying something. Fans would rather go winless and lose an entire season and maybe more for a rebuild than keep Ferentz.

Keeping it short and sweet. Ferentz does have a pretty hefty buyout, especially with a contract extension through 2029 that he signed a few years ago. So if Iowa wants to be done with Ferentz, it won't come at a cheap price.
