While this isn't the way senior Taylor McCabe wanted her collegiate playing career to end, she is trying to make the most of it.
McCabe was injured early in an Iowa victory over Ohio State, and it was later revealed that she tore her ACL and meniscus, effectively ending her career.
While it was difficult for McCabe to adjust to her new normal, the squad also struggled to adjust to life without her.
Before righting the ship, Iowa lost three straight games after she was injured, and has finally found ways to win without one of its senior leaders.
McCabe has played her last game on the court, but she is still trying to be involved through her injury recovery and rehab.
McCabe still wants to lead by example
Suffering a season-ending injury is never easy, but McCabe is trying to make the most of it.
During her Senior media availability this week, McCabe said she is still "pretty involved, despite not being on the court, and has gained many new perspectives.
She said her leadership style has always been to lead by example, and she continues to do so to the best of her abilities.
Even though "it's been weird," McCabe still has a voice and knows that many of the younger players look up to her and value what she is saying.
While McCabe still wants to pursue her post-playing dream of becoming a Disney Imagineer, she hasn't ruled out a coaching career.
She stated that she has learned a lot from Jan Jensen and the rest of her coaches over the years that the multiple perspectives she now has will help her in the future.
