Forget all the drama, Caitlin Clark deserves to be in the MVP conversation.
Clark is one of the biggest basketball stars on the planet right now, and despite all the eyes and new fans she brings to the game, the WNBA continues to botch her promotion. The league and its players have done their best to dim her light, but her play speaks for itself. Clark is having a career year to this point, and she should easily be near the top of the MVP conversation.
Clark has a strong case for MVP, and Dick Vitale adamantly agrees
Clark has made headlines for everything under the sun this season, including her incident with Phoenix star Alyssa Thomas, being left off the WNBA 30-year anniversary poster, not condemning or supporting teammate Sophie Cunningham for her polarizing comments, and everything in between. She has done her best to focus on basketball and admitted that, regardless of what the media and everyone else seems to think, she is human and not a robot. One of her biggest supporters has been longtime media personality Dick Vitale, as he continues to come to her defense.
The more I analyze what @CaitlinClark22 has been doing regularly for the @IndianaFever & I w/o a doubt believe her production in scoring & creating opportunities with her passing skills warrant Caitlin to be in the hunt for MVP honors in the @WNBA https://t.co/tLtdJfh7zX

He has said in the past that she deserves to be treated like "royalty" and has been very upfront about how he feels about how other players have treated her. Vitale continues to echo the sentiments of all Hawkeye and Fever fans, and while we have always thought that Clark should be in the MVP conversation, her numbers back that up. She is No. 3 overall in scoring average (22.0) and No. 1 in assists per game (8.3), showcasing how impactful she is for the Fever. Clark has also tallied multiple 20-plus-point and 10-plus-assist games, including a 45-point, 10-assist outburst against Seattle earlier this season.
She has guided the Fever to first place in the standings, and they are the No. 1 scoring team in the league. If you remove Clark from the Fever, they would be nowhere close to where they are right now, and that isn't a knock on Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell, but they need Clark for her all-around offensive game. She has the ball in her hands on every possession and is exceptional at setting up her teammates for easy baskets. She would have even more assists if her teammates didn't fumble the ball as much, and despite that, she is still leading the league in assists.
Vitale isn't the only one who has enjoyed watching Clark this season, as other prominent sports figures, like soccer star Alex Morgan, have also expressed their appreciation for her. Clark is fun to watch and is also putting up the numbers that you'd expect from one of the best players in the league. Hawkeye and Fever fans have been pushing Clark's MVP case for a while, and Clark just received the ultimate vote of confidence from Vitale to boost her case.
