The Iowa defense has been solid over the first four weeks of the season, excluding the first half against Rutgers last Friday night.
The Rutgers offense had its way with the defense, getting whatever it wanted in the first half, as it used a balanced attack to put up 21 first-half points against a stout Iowa defense.
After halftime adjustments made by the defense, the unit allowed only seven second-half points as the Hawkeyes took care of business in Piscataway.
The defense will face a more challenging task this weekend as the Hawkeyes welcome the red-hot No. 11 Indiana Hoosiers to Kinnick Stadium.
The high-powered Indiana offense is putting up nearly 55 points per game (54.8) through their first four games, and are led by dual-threat quarterback, and Heisman favorite, Fernando Mendoza.
Mendoza has already thrown for 975 yards and 14 touchdowns, and has not thrown an interception this season.
The Iowa defense has its work cut out for it, and they are focused on eliminating the big plays to try to slow down this Indiana offense.
Iowa defensive back Deshaun Lee was asked extensively about how the defense plans to slow down Indiana during his media availability this week (posted by "The Hawkeye Report"), and his answer was simple: do your job first.
Lee acknowledged that Indiana has a lot of playmakers on the offensive side of the ball, and eliminating big plays is a "big thing" for them this week.
He stated that it will not be easy, but as long as everyone focuses on their jobs and is honed into the details, they have a chance.
