Former Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean continues turning heads on and off the football field. The former Hawkeyes star is coming off a stellar rookie season for the Philadelphia Eagles.
After the Eagles selected him with the No. 40 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, DeJean was rehabbing a brutal injury he suffered at Iowa. He broke his fibula in the fall of 2023 and missed the season's final four games, including the Big Ten Championship.
He could not participate in any pre-draft workouts, which caused him to slide in the draft. The Eagles knew they wanted him and traded up 10 picks to select him.
The Eagles wanted to ensure he was fully ready for NFL action, and did not play him until week 6 against the Browns. He made his presence felt immediately, tallying six tackles and 0.5 sacks.
It was not long before the Eagles permanently placed him in the starting lineup, and their defense took off.
He was a crucial part of the Eagles' Super Bowl run, and had a pick-six in the Super Bowl. On Friday, DeJean and his teammates were building camaraderie on the basketball court, and he showed why he is one of the best athletes on the team.
In a video posted to the Eagles' social media accounts, Saquon Barkley throws an alley-oop between his legs and off the backboard to DeJean, who soared in for a massive two-handed throwdown.
He also hung on the rim for good measure.
DeJean is no stranger to the basketball court and was a dominant force for Odebolt Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove (OABCIG) High School in Ida Grove, Iowa.
During his senior year of high school, DeJean averaged 25.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 7.1 assists per game, leading OABCIG to a 21-2 record. After the season, the Des Moines Register and Iowa City Press-Citizen named him the 2021 All-Iowa Male Athlete of the Year.
He scored more points in high school (1,832) than current NBA player and former Ames, Iowa graduate, Harrison Barnes.
This not the first time DeJean has thrown down a ferocious dunk on the basketball court and this viral video is more proof of what a freak athlete DeJean is.
