Congratulations to the Philadelphia Eagles on winning Super Bowl LIX over the Kansas City Chiefs, but Iowa fans are more focused on showing their former star Cooper DeJean some love, not just on his birthday, but for his contributions to the win.
In a highly anticipated rematch from Super Bowl LVIII, the Eagles came back for revenge on the Chiefs, laying it on them with a final score of 40-22, a game that was not as close as it may look. DeJean played his part on an Eagles defense that completely dominated the Chiefs all night long, including contributing to the scoring.
In the second quarter, DeJean picked off Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and ran it back 38 yards for a touchdown, and even became the first NFL player in history to score a touchdown on his birthday.
It was a feeling that DeJean's touchdown really turned the tide for the Eagles and gave them everything they needed to win this game. The Eagles defense had been shutting down a high-flying Chiefs offense through he first quarter and. half, but scoring a pick-six can really put a team down and that is exactly what it did to the Chiefs.
Not only was this the first time an NFL player scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl on their birthday, but this was also DeJean's first ever interception and he returned it for a touchdown, making it his first career touchdown.
This was a game that DeJean was able to show all those who didn't believe he could be a big time player in the NFL that he had what it took. The Eagles took a chance on DeJean in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft and he quickly became a starter in the Eagles secondary towards the beginning of the 2024 NFL season.
Iowa officially has another Super Bowl champion in their ranks and DeJean earned it every step of the way!
