Forget all the off-court drama: Caitlin Clark is quietly having her best year as a professional basketball player.
The 2026 season for Clark has been a rollercoaster of emotions due to the drama surrounding her. She has been punched in the throat, left off the WNBA's 30-year anniversary poster, dealt with a nagging back injury, and shattered multiple records, all while having one of, if not the best, seasons of her young career. A Most Valuable Player award is not out of the question for her, especially after her latest achievement.
Clark earned her third Eastern Conference Player of the Week Nomination
Clark picked up right where she left off before the All-Star break, torching the rest of the league on offense. During the past week, Clark has scored in double digits in all three of the Fever's games, including a 32-point outburst against Seattle and a triple-double (26 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) against Portland. After another dominating week, Clark has earned her third Player of the Week award this season.

During the week of July 27 through August 2, Clark averaged 25.7 points, 9.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game, guiding the Fever to a 2-1 record in three games. Even though Clark is averaging a career-low 29.7 minutes per game, she is still putting up career highs in points (21.5), field goal percentage (44.6), and three-point percentage (34.9), helping the Fever to a first-place position, while averaging the most points per game in the league this season (96.5). With the playoffs a little over a month away, Indiana is in a prime position to make a deep run, with Clark at the center of it.
Forgetting all the numbers for a moment, when Clark is at the top of her game, there are very few players who can slow her down, and when Clark and the Fever are doing well, the entire league is doing well. It is no secret that all of the Fever's games this season are nationally televised and remain a massive draw for the league. According to Nielsen ratings, viewership dropped by 55 percent while Clark was injured last season, and the league needs her to be healthy and play.
Clark HAS to be in the MVP conversation, and that is good not only for her and the Fever, but also for the rest of the league.
An MVP season would solidify an already impressive resume for Clark
Despite all the negativity and false reports that the Fever are better without her on the floor, Clark has proven this season that Indiana, and the rest of the WNBA, need her on the floor. She has been mostly healthy this season, and it's no coincidence that she is putting up a career high in points while the Fever are the league's highest-scoring team. Not only are the Fever better when Clark is scoring at a high rate, but she is also one of the best passers in the league, ranking No. 2 overall with 8.0 assists per game.
She is easily one of the best offensive players in the league this season, and definitely has a case to be the MVP, especially if the Fever finish the regular season in first place. As long as A'ja Wilson is in the league, she will be in the running for the MVP every year due to her dominating play on both ends, but that doesn't mean Clark doesn't have an argument. Clark has now earned three Player of the Week awards, matching Wilson for the most in the WNBA this season.
It will be interesting to see where the Las Vegas Aces and the Fever finish the regular season, and if Clark stays healthy, she has a chance to add an MVP to her already Hall-of-Fame-worthy resume.
