The Indiana Fever started the 2025 WNBA season with an inspired performance against the Chicago Sky at home in Indianapolis at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. After a tightly contested first quarter, the Fever led 22-17 and never trailed.
WNBA veteran DeWanna Bonner made headlines after passing Tina Thompson to move into third on the all-time scoring list with 7,349 career points.
Superstar Caitlin Clark had a triple-double of 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists, with four blocks and two steals, in a 93-58 drubbing of the Sky.
On Tuesday night, the Fever welcomed Brittney Griner and the Atlanta Dream to Gainbridge Fieldhouse. The Fever struggled out of the gate, but were only down two points (44-42) at halftime. It was a back-and-forth battle until the very end.
The Fever trailed most of the game, but took the lead 90-89 with under 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter on an Aliyah Boston free-throw. After two made free throws during the next possession, the Dream would retake the lead 91-90.
The Fever had the ball with under 10 seconds left and had two last-second shot attempts. Natasha Howard missed both attempts, and the Fever fell to the Dream 91-90. Clark was sensational for the second consecutive game, adding 27 points, 11 assists, and five rebounds in the loss.
The Indiana Fever were unsuccessful in their second game of the season, but Clark hit some milestones in the loss.
Clark set four different milestones during the Tuesday night loss to the Dream.
She tied Chicago Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot for the most 20-plus point, 10-plus assist double-doubles (10) in WNBA history. It took Clark (41 games) 389 fewer games to accomplish the feat.
Clark became the first player in WNBA history to open the season with back-to-back 20-plus point, 10-plus assist games.
She also became the first player in WNBA history to have multiple games with 25-plus points, 10-plus assists, five-plus rebounds, and five-plus three-point field goals.
After Clark's performance on Tuesday, she notched her 6th career game of 25-plus points and 10-plus assists, passing New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu for the most all-time.
Clark is doing things during her first few seasons that most WNBA players cannot accomplish in their careers. Her star continues to rise in her second year in the WNBA.
The Indiana Fever travel to Atlanta on Thursday, May 22, to battle the Atlanta Dream at State Farm Arena. The game tips off at 6:30 p.m. Central Time.
