We knew. We all knew.

Former Hawkeye star and college basketball legend Luka Garza is experiencing the best year of his NBA career.

After spending most of his career on the bench or with the G-League's Iowa Wolves, Luka Garza got a new start with the Boston Celtics before the season.

Following three years with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Garza signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract with Boston to fill up their depleted roster.

Garza's signing might have been an afterthought for most people, but he has been a key reserve for the Celtics this season.

Garza is finally getting his chance to show what he can do, and he is taking full advantage of his opportunity.

He is averaging career highs across the board in minutes (16.3), points (7.5), and rebounds (4.4) per game for the Celtics through 31 games this season.

Arguably the most significant improvement is in his three-point percentage, jumping from 27.8 percent to a whopping 51.2 percent.

As Hawkeye and college basketball fans, we all knew what Garza was capable of, but apparently, a Celtics insider did not.

In a statement he later clarified, Celtics insider Marc D'Amico claimed Luka Garza is the stretch big "no one knew existed" before this season.

Regardless of what he meant, stars and fans alike are coming to Garza's defense.

With two simple words, former Iowa legend Caitlin Clark eviscerated D'Amico on X.

Clark and Garza are the two best players in Iowa men's and women's basketball history, and she was not going to let this blasphemy slide.

After a meteoric rise over the past few years, former NFL punter and media legend Pat McAfee also came to Garza's defense.

With a sarcastic dig, followed by #GoHawks, certified ball knower Pat McAfee has been officially welcomed into the Hawkeye family.

Can't help but agree with Nic on this one.

Garza was buried in the G-League for far too long, and now that he is getting a chance, he is proving what he can do.

It does seem like more people knew, contrary to what D'Amico thought.

It is very hard to believe that "no one knew" after Garza was a National Player of the Year recipient, and probably should have won the award twice during his time at Iowa.

Regardless of what D'Amico's intentions were with his post, he is catching a lot of flak for what he said about Garza, and rightly so.
