After locking up their first prospect in the 2027 recruiting class, the good news keeps rolling in for Ben McCollum and Iowa men's basketball.
The program recently earned a commitment from six-foot-ten forward prospect Keller Daugherty, an under-the-radar prospect who was starting to climb up recruiting boards before committing to the Hawkeyes. With Daugherty on board, the program isn't stopping there and remains extremely active on the recruiting trail.
McCollum and the coaching staff have had their sights set on multiple high-ranked guards in the class, and got some great news on one of their top targets.

It has been an eventful summer already for a top Iowa target, and after recently announcing his intentions to transfer to Monarch Academy in Kansas City for his senior season, he locked in an official visit to Iowa City.

Jaxson Davis has steadily risen in the rankings, with Rivals currently ranking him as a four-star prospect, Illinois' No. 5 overall prospect, the No. 16 point guard prospect, and the No. 50 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. Davis' three big seasons for Warren Township have fueled his meteoric rise in the rankings, and he is now taking his talents to the newly created Monarch Academy in the Nike EYBL Scholastic League.
Davis averaged 23.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 3.2 steals per game for the Blue Devils last season, guiding them to the Illinois State Championship game. Even though Davis has received significant interest from multiple major programs, Rivals currently projects Iowa as the early favorite to land him in the 2027 class.
If the Hawkeyes land Davis, he will easily be the biggest commitment of McCollum's short tenure, and it will immediately vault Iowa into contention. Davis does everything on the court, and with Iowa's lack of guard depth, he will make an impact right away. There is no question he has the talent to start next to Ty'Reek Coleman or be one of the first players off the bench if he needs more time to adjust to the college game.
McCollum deserves a lot of credit for aggressively pursuing some of the top guards in the class, and the program's success with Bennett Stirtz at the helm last season has definitely helped. It isn't over until Davis officially steps on campus, but his commitment is massive for the program in multiple ways.
