Ben McCollum is not one to shy away from calling out his team or holding them accountable, and that continued after the win over Clemson.
It wasn't pretty at times, especially with star guard Bennett Stirtz struggling with his shot, but the Hawkeyes found ways to win, and did not trail for the entire 40 minutes of the game.
McCollum was well aware of how good Clemson is defensively and created a solid game plan to ensure Iowa had the lead and kept it.
Even though Iowa ultimately won the game against Clemson to advance to the next round, McCollum had some interesting words to describe the way his squad played.
McCollum stated they "didn't always work with a high level of intelligence"
McCollum is a very blunt, straightforward coach and will always say what he thinks about the team's performance on a given night.
While he acknowledged the team's fight and toughness, he also had a very interesting quote about how they played against Clemson.
McCollum said post-game that he was proud of his guys, but it isn't always pretty, and they don't always operate with a high level of intelligence.
He quickly clarified that statement by saying they aren't dumb players, but sometimes they do things that are "just out of this world."
McCollum never questions the heart and fight of his team, but he won't sugarcoat his responses about how he thinks they played overall.
There is no question that McCollum was not entirely happy with how the game went, but was happy with the outcome, and will now prepare his guys for the Round of 32.
