Apparently, the New York Post does not know the difference between the University of Iowa and Iowa State University

A mistake on social media turns into comedy gold for one Iowa Basketball player

The Iowa Men's Basketball program has been through the wringer over the past few weeks. The Hawkeyes' season ended abruptly after losing in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament against Ohio State.

The Hawkeyes finished the season 17-16 (7-13 Big Ten) and did not make the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.

A day later, Beth Goetz and the University of Iowa Athletics Department decided to fire Head Coach Fran McCaffery after 15 seasons.

Fran's firing ignited a mass exodus from Iowa City. The Hawkeyes have seen seven players enter the transfer portal and have lost two 2025 recruits. Amidst the doom and gloom in Iowa City, Payton Sandfort gave us something to laugh about.

The New York Post made an unforgivable mistake when they confused Iowa and Iowa State in a recent post on X that aimed to promote their coverage of the NCAA Tournament.

Iowa is lucky to have Payton Sandfort, who immediately responded to the gaff by the Post. His response was simple but effective. He responded with a meme of a kid pointing at himself as if he was saying, "Who, me?"

This is not the first time a national news media outlet has confused the two schools, and it will not be the last time. Iowa fans are happy to teach other people the difference between the two schools, but it is better when current or former players do it.

Payton Sandfort is everything you want in a player. He is tough, hard-nosed, and competes as hard as possible in every game. Iowa was lucky to have him suit up for the black and gold and we will miss him as he enters graduation.

In a time of depression and anxiety for Hawkeyes fans, it was nice to see Payton give us something to laugh at by taking a crack at a mistake by a national news outlet.
