On the second drive for the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Iowa Hawkeyes already faced a tough loss when tight end Addison Ostrenga took a tough hit and is now heading to the locker room.

On a third-down play, quarterback Mike Gronowski threw a long pass to Ostrenga, which was broken up by an Iowa State defender, but it sent Ostrenga to the ground hard. He was shaken up on the player, but was able to walk off the field. Then Ostrenga needed help from two athletic trainers to get to the medical tent.

After some time in the tent, Ostrenga was taken to the locker room on a cart with what was described as a lower-body injury, according to sideline reporter Jenny Taft.

Here is the play where the injury occurred.

While Iowa is very deep at the tight end position, this is a really tough loss for the Hawkeyes, as Ostrenga is a huge offensive weapon on the Iowa offense. The absence of OStrenga was felt on Iowa's most recent offensive dive in the first quarter, where backup tight end Zach Ortwerth completely missed a block, and his defender was able to get to the running back and create a loss of six yards.

As of right now, Iowa will wait and see about Ostrenga. Depending on how severe the injury is, he could return for this game, but going back to the locker room gives him the questionable to return injury designation.

Check back later with Dear Old Gold for an update on Ostrenga and his availability for the rest of this matchup.
