The recruiting wins keep coming for Ben McCollum ahead of his second year in charge of Iowa Men's Basketball.
Iowa has made an aggressive push to sign some of the top prospects, and McCollum's aggressive recruiting strategy has started to pay off. The program recently earned a commitment from 2027 forward prospect Keller Daugherty, and made the final five for Cayden Daughtry, the No. 3 overall prospect in the 2027 class. The program has remained in the mix for multiple highly coveted prospects throughout the summer, and that trend continued as another top guard prospect has Iowa in his final 10.
2027 top-20 prospect Jalen Davis has Iowa in his final 10
After the massive news that Cayden Daughtry scheduled an official visit to Iowa City and has the program on his final list of preferred destinations, the program got more great news from the recruiting trail.

After recently announcing that he scheduled an official visit to the Iowa program on October 3, top-20 prospect Jalen Davis released a list of his top 10 preferred destinations. The Hawkeyes, alongside BYU, Gonzaga, Ole Miss, Stanford, TCU, Texas Tech, UCLA, USC, and Washington, made the cut. Davis is one of the premier scoring guards in the 2027 class, and Rivals currently ranks him as the No. 6 point guard and the No. 20 overall player in the class. Davis brings a lot to the table, and he would be a huge addition to the squad, especially if the program either misses out or also adds Daughtry.
Daughtry and Davis would form a lethal backcourt paring, and would be great compliments to each other with the different skills they each possess. Daughtry is a better offensive player, while Davis is a skilled passer and finisher at the rim, making up for his lack of size. McCollum has aggressively pursued both players, and it's easy to see why. Davis has a tremendous basketball IQ and is one of the better passers in the class. His potential is off the charts, and is too good for the Hawkeyes not to heavily invest in trying to acquire him.
This fall will provide a few massive opportunities for McCollum and the program to reel in two top-20 guards in the 2027 class, and earning a commitment from one or both would prove that his is one of the best recruiters in college basketball. It is still too early to jump to conclusions, but the fact that the program has remained in play for multiple top prospects is very encouraging, and now they have to close the deal.
