No this is not an article telling Iowa fans that Kirk Ferentz is leaving Iowa, but that his son Brian Ferentz is taking his offensive talents to the West Coast at Fresno State.
The former Iowa offensive coordinator, whom Iowa fans were happy to see go after the 2023 season, is expected to be hired at Fresno State as an offensive assistant coach according to CBS Sports.
Ferentz spent the last season at Maryland as an analyst after leaving the Hawkeyes after the 2023 season. Ferentz first started at Iowa back in 2012 as the offensive line coach and was promoted to offensive coordinator working alongside his father Kirk Ferentz in 2017.
In seven seasons with Iowa, the Hawkeyes never had an offense ranked higher than 87th in the country, and during his final season, they ranked last in college football, coming in at 132nd. Iowa fans were wearing shirts that said "Fire Brian" shirts in the crowd before the Hawkeyes chose to let him go, although he will tell you that he made the choice not to return.
He will now head out to the West Coast to help the Fresno State Bulldog offense run in the Mountain West. The Bulldogs are coming off of a 6-7 season in 2024 and could use a lot of help on the offensive side of the ball. Ferentz was not hired as an offensive coordinator, and although his official position with the team is unclear, it is certain he will be trying to help their offense take a step forward.
