A former Hawkeye star earned some hardware after a stellar season for the Townsville Fire

Former Hawkeye star Lucy Olsen definitely brought the fire to the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) during the WNBA offseason.

After the 2025 WNBA regular season, Olsen took her talents to the WNBL, joining the Townsville Fire.

The Fire is one of eight teams in the WNBL, and Olsen has been a critical piece during a stellar 19-4 regular season.

After defeating the Bendigo Spirit 84-66 in their final game of the regular season on February 8, the Fire locked up the No. 1 overall seed in the playoffs.

Olsen's stellar play off the bench has helped push the Fire to the top spot in the playoffs, leading to her earning some hardware.

Olsen earned the WNBL's Sixth Woman of the Year Award

Olsen was a star for the Hawkeyes during her only season in Iowa City (2024-2025), averaging 17.9 points, 5.1 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game.

After the Washington Mystics selected her with the No. 23 overall pick in the second round of the 2025 WNBA Draft, Olsen was primarily used as a bench option.

Following a limited role in her first professional season, Olsen headed to Australia in the offseason to continue playing and working on her game, and it definitely paid off.

Olsen earned the WNBL's Sixth Woman of the Year award after averaging 9.3 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game.

She also shot 36.5 percent from the field and 87.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Olsen and the Townsville Fire have completely turned their attention to the 2026 postseason, but there is no doubt that she played a key role in the squad's success this year.
