Just ahead of the 2026 WNBA Draft, a former Hawkeye star is on the move.

The 2026 WNBA Draft is on Monday, April 14, at 6:00 p.m. Central Time, with Hannah Stuelke attempting to become the fifth Iowa player selected in the past five drafts.

One of those former draft picks is on the move once again, going from the 2025 WNBA Champion Las Vegas Aces to a new expansion team in Portland.

Before superstar Caitlin Clark launched the Iowa women's basketball program into the stratosphere, Megan Gustafson was dominating for Lisa Bluder and the Hawkeyes.

Gustafson, a former national player of the year for the Hawkeyes, finished her collegiate career averaging 20.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, and the Dallas Wings selected her with the 17th pick in the second round of the 2019 WNBA Draft.

She struggled to carve out a role in the WNBA early on, but found a solid role with the Aces over the past two seasons. Now, she is on the move once again and has a new opportunity to help a new franchise achieve success.

According to Gustafson's agent, Ticha Penicheiro, she is headed to the Portland Fire on a new two-year contract.

The contract is projected to be $500,000 in year one and increasing to $525,000 in year two.

After injuries derailed her in year two with the Aces, Gustafson became a free agent and signed with one of the WNBA's new franchises in search of a new opportunity.

In two seasons with the Aces, Gustafson averaged 3.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game in 11.0 minutes per game as the primary backup to star center A'ja Wilson.

Gustafson is currently the only center on the Fire's roster and has a solid chance to compete for an expanded role this season.
