There and back again: A professional basketball player's tale by Jarrod Uthoff.

Uthoff is no stranger to moving around in search of a better opportunity to play basketball. The 2011 Iowa Mr. Basketball initially spurned his home state by committing to Wisconsin, but after two seasons of riding the pine with the Badgers, he came back home. Fran McCaffery convinced Uthoff to join the Hawkeyes in 2013, and he developed into one of Iowa's best players.

After bouncing around in the NBA, the G League, and Europe, Uthoff is back stateside to represent Team USA.

Uthoff will represent the USA during qualifiers for the 2026 FIBA World Cup

Uthoff has an extensive travel history after graduating from the University of Iowa, which includes stops with the G League Raptors 905 (2016-2017), Fort Wayne Mad Ants (2017, 2018), Texas Legends (2017), Memphis Hustle (2019-2020), and the Erie Bayhawks (2021). He also had cups of coffee in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks (2017), Memphis Grizzlies (2020), and the Washington Wizards (2020), before bouncing around in Europe.

Uthoff is now officially back in the United States for a brief period as he represents his country.

Uthoff received a call from Team USA and will participate in the upcoming FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, beginning on July 3. Since 2024, Uthoff has found a home with Pallacanestro Trieste in Italy and averaged 7.8 points per game on 51.3 percent shooting from the field and 37.8 percent from beyond the arc last season. He has carved out a nice role for Pallacanestro after bouncing around in Japan for three seasons.

Even though Uthoff has become a journeyman, Iowa fans remember him fondly as a versatile forward who excelled on both ends of the court. The lanky six-foot-nine forward was a stellar inside-out scorer and was an elite shot-blocker for the Hawkeyes. He notched 66 games scoring in double-digits, and also finished his Iowa career ranked No. 4 all-time in program history in blocked shots (177).

Uthoff's versatility on both ends of the court is a solid fit for Team USA, and he will get a chance to show what he can do after spending significant time in the NBA G League and overseas. Team USA takes on the Dominican Republic in Santo Domingo, DR, at 7 p.m. Central Time on July 3, before heading to Mexico to take on Mexico at 9 p.m. on July 6. Both games will be televised on DAZN.
