Former Iowa defensive lineman Noah Shannon's Iowa career was cut short after he was ruled ineligible to play during the 2023 college football season.

Shannon was one of nearly a dozen athletes at the University of Iowa and Iowa State University who were caught up in a gambling sting that was conducted in early 2023 by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

The investigation was done in order to determine whether or not the athletes participated in wagering or fixing games. Sports gambling was not yet legal in the state of Iowa.

Shannon was named in the probe and promptly suspended for the 2023 season, effectively ending his Iowa football career.

Shannon reflected on the incident a few years later in 2024, stating it was "part of maturing as a human being."

After a three-year hiatus from the program, Shannon is back with the Hawkeyes in a different capacity.

Earlier in August, Head Coach Kirk Ferentz announced that Shannon was returning to the program as an assistant for development.

According to 247 Sports Hawkeye Insider David Eickholt, Shannon was beloved by his teammates during his time as a player, and this is a great landing spot for him.

Shannon was a member of the Hawkeye football program from 2019 to 2022 and accumulated 107 total tackles (53 solo, 54 assisted), 4.5 sacks, and one forced fumble.

He helped the Hawkeyes earn their most recent Bowl Game victory in the Music City Bowl in 2022 before being out of football in 2023.

Shannon also spent a brief time with the Las Vegas Raiders organization (2024) before returning to Iowa City to become a coach.
