Before the 2025-2026 college football season starts, Iowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz and his staff continue adding talent to the roster. The 2025 recruiting class ranks in the bottom half of the Big Ten and the top 50 nationally.

On3 Sports ranked Iowa's 2025 recruiting class as the No. 11 overall in the Big Ten and No. 33 nationally.

The 2025 recruiting class is headlined by defensive end Iose Epenesa (younger brother of former Iowa star AJ Epenesa), tight end Thomas Meyer (No. 1 Iowa prospect), and linebacker Burke Gautcher (No. 6 Illinois prospect).

The 2026 recruiting class has a near-identical ranking, but focuses on offensive players, including a trio of four-star offensive linemen (Gene Riordan, Hudson Parliament, and Carson Nielsen).

On Monday, the only 2026 quarterback prospect decommitted from the program.

After initially committing to the Hawkeyes in October 2024, 2026 quarterback prospect Cash Herrera has decommitted from the Iowa program. Herrera chose Iowa over Appalachian State, Colorado State, Minnesota, San Diego State, UCLA, Virginia Tech, and Washington State offers.

On3 Sports ranked Herrera as a three-star prospect, California's No. 63 prospect, and the No. 679 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.

Herrera, a California native, was committed to the Hawkeyes, but questions about his commitment arose following offers from Cal and Arizona.

Herrera is a dual-threat quarterback who excelled at The Bishop's School in San Diego, California, last season.

During his junior year, Herrera tallied 2,033 passing yards and 24 touchdowns, completing 62 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 334 yards and eight touchdowns.

After committing to the Iowa program on October 4, 2024, Herrera has re-opened his recruitment.
