5. Iowa has plenty of scorers

Fran McCaffery’s teams are usually known for scoring. The Hawkeyes led the entire Big Ten in scoring last season, averaging 77.7 points per game. Standout center Luka Garza led the Big Ten in points per game (23.9). Just like last year, expect plenty of points from plenty of different players in 2020-21.

“We have a lot of guys that can score, a lot of guys who want to score, a lot of guys who can carry a team on any particular day,” said McCaffery.

Four of Iowa’s five projected starters average double-digit points for their careers. That includes a budding star in CJ Fredrick, who shot 46 percent from 3-point range last season as a true freshman, and the return of Jordan Bohannon, a distributor who also has the touch to convert from downtown.

“We have so many weapons on the offensive end, and we know our offense is always going to be there,” said Garza in a recent interview with ESPN. “When you have five, six, seven guys that at any time, they can score the ball and have confidence because they’ve scored the ball in the past, it’s going to help us so much on that end.”

Based on what we’ve seen and what we’re hearing before the season, the Hawkeyes will once again challenge to lead the Big Ten in scoring this season after doing so the past two years.
