Iowa Basketball will have lofty expectations this coming season, as they boast the second best odds to win the 2021 National Championship.

Could the Iowa Hawkeyes win it all this coming season? Some oddsmakers seem to think so. According to one sports book, Iowa Basketball has the second best odds to win the 2021 National Championship next April.

The Hawkeyes have +750 odds to win the title, per Bovada sports book. Only Villanova has better odds to cut down the net. Tied for third best odds are Gonzaga, Kentucky and fellow Big Ten school Illinois (+1000).

Iowa is scheduled to face off against Gonzaga on Dec. 19 in Sioux Falls, SD. Both teams are expected to be ranked in the top 10.

The 2020-21 season may be the most exciting in Iowa Basketball history. The Hawkeyes return five starters from a season ago, which includes senior center/forward Luka Garza, the favorite to win the National Player of the Year award. Iowa also returns senior guard Jordan Bohannon, who redshirted last season after undergoing surgery on his hip.

Iowa basketball should have one of the most exciting offenses in the nation this season. They have scorers at every position, with depth to complement. Improved defensive efficiency will be key to a successful run during the 2021 NCAA Tournament.

Of course, the Hawkeyes never had a chance to prove themselves during March Madness last spring. The 2020 NCAA Tourney was canceled outright due to concerns stemming from the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

None of that matters now, though, especially with the pieces Iowa has heading into the 2020-21 season. Fran McCaffery’s squad will have lofty expectations, even if they’re still somewhat unproven on the big stage.

Next. Iowa must get Tyler Goodson more involved. dark

Iowa Basketball has never won a National Championship, and the last time they won the Big Ten regular season title was in 1979. Could all of that change in 2021?
