Iowa football: Five observations from loss to Penn State
By Andrew Wade
Our guards are not good right now
Defensive tackle Robert Windsor was not one of the guys we were worried about coming into last night’s game. Honestly, he wouldn’t have even made the top-10 list, but leave it to the Hawkeye’s offensive line to help him make a name for himself.
Despite registering zero sacks to date, Windsor was a beast Saturday recording 2.5 sacks and 2 hurries on the evening. If he wasn’t Penn State’s defensive MVP, I don’t know who could be because he consistently wrecked the Iowa football team’s offense.
And not to take anything away from Windsor, but this is as much on Iowa’s guards as it is him.
With Cole Banwart out for the season now and Kyler Schott out for the foreseeable future, the Hawks turned to backup tackle Mark Kallenberger and the Paulsen twins to man the interior offensive line to the left and right of Tyler Linderbaum.
Well, to put it bluntly, they were terrible, absolutely terrible.
Landan Paulsen even got benched after allowing a sack. It was one of those nights for the Hawks.
