The secondary looks good

If there was one big positive from the game it was how well the secondary matched up against the Big Ten’s best wide receiver group. Now, granted, Michigan was playing it pretty conservatively and there was the one 51-yard pass to Nico Collins, but still.

Playing without Matt Hankins, the teams staring corner, DJ Johnson once again did a pretty solid job in coverage.

More impressive though was the safety duo of Geno Stone and Jack Koerner who were flying all over the field yesterday and playing outstanding coverage when needed.

On the day, Michigan’s passing attack netted just 147 yards for an average of 5.7 yards per attempt. Like Stanley, Patterson had a mediocre day at best as he posted a 27.4 QBR, well below the average.

Usually, when you can hold a team to just ten points, you can win the game. Unfortunately, today wasn’t one of those days but at least we can see that we have an elite defense and fantastic secondary, again.
