Iowa football: 3 reasons the Hawks could make the CFB Playoffs in 2019
By Andrew Wade
The Iowa football is off to a 3-0 start, and I think we’ve seen enough to consider this team a possible College Football Playoff contender. Here’s why.
Coming into the 2019 season, there were two main feelings I had about the 2019 Iowa football team. First, I thought this could be the most talented team, on paper, in the Kirk Ferentz era despite losing four underclassmen to the 2019 NFL Draft. Second, I thought this schedule could be the most difficult schedule the Iowa football team has ever had with a daunting road schedule that includes visits to Michigan, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa State, and Nebraska.
Through three games, I think the potential for point number one is definitely there, and point number two is sort of a mixed bag, but what I have seen from the Iowa football team so far leads me to believe this isn’t your average Hawkeye team that wins 8 games and gets into an above-average bowl game.
This is a team that has a chance to shock the nation and slip into the College Football Playoffs. It isn’t going to be easy and it certainly isn’t likely, but the possibility is still there and that’s why even though the Hawks aren’t playing this week, there are certain matchups we should be rooting for as it would help the Hawks.
Heck, even some ESPN analysts think there are small chances the Iowa football team could shock the nation this year so the notion isn’t as absurd as it may seem.
Here are the three reasons why the Iowa football team are contenders for the College Football Playoffs.
