The wide receiver depth is great, and don’t read too much into it

At this point, it’s just Iowa being Iowa. Oliver Martin is going to get playing time, and I firmly believe his playing time will continue to increase, but if we’re being honest, Tyrone Tracy Jr and Nico Ragaini held their own in their first real game action.

Each had fewer catches than Martin, but they didn’t look like they weren’t able to handle the moment. Tyrone Tracy had a nice 22-yard catch and run while Nico Ragaini ran a beautiful route down the seam to get 45 yards on 1 catch.

It looks like they did enough to hold on to their spots as they were both on the two-deeps with Oliver Martin not listed. The big thing to note is regardless of where Martin is on this depth chart, the Iowa football team will be deliberate and intentional about getting him game time and working in all five wide receivers. They did a good job of it this past Saturday, which gives me no reason to doubt they can’t do it again.

I stand by the fact that by the end of this year though the Hawks will either list Martin on the two-deep or place three wide receiver spots on the depth chart.
