The Iowa football team returns to Kinnick Stadium for the 2019 season verse a familiar nonconference foe, the Miami RedHawks this evening.

For the first time in Iowa football history, they will start the season under the lights, which is pretty crazy considering how long Iowa football has been around.

This is going to be the Iowa football team’s 5th match up all-time against the Miami RedHawks dating back to 2001. Currently, Iowa leads the series versus the RedHawks 4-0.

Kick-off for Saturday’s contest is slated for 6:40 and will be televised on Fox Sports One, and the broadcasting crew will be Brian Custer (who will be doing play-by-play) and Robert Smith (who will be doing the color commentary). For those of you in the midwest, Fox Sports One is on Direct TV channel 219 and Dish Network 150.

If you don’t currently have FS1, you may want to look into it or find an awesome bar near you because this is going to be the first of a couple of games for the Hawkeyes on Fox Sports One as the Big Ten and Fox Sports came to an agreement to televise Big Ten football.

According to Bovado, Iowa is favored by 22.5 points and the over-under is currently set at 47. This is a hefty margin given Iowa’s struggles in season openers, and it may be tough to get past unless the weather can hold off today.

Heading into this game, the Iowa football team is mostly healthy, with Shaun Beyer, Julus Brents, and Cole Banwart being the notable injuries, and the black and gold will include Oliver Martin, who was recently granted immediate eligibility.

After a month of fall camp and with one of the most talented rosters we have ever seen under Kirk Ferentz, I believe the Hawks will be ready to go today. And if you are unable to attend the game in person tonight, make sure to tune in on television and watch the Iowa football team secure its first win of the 2019 season.
