Cameo appearance from the second stringers

Per the ESPN app, Iowa is favored by 21.5 points on Saturday. Honestly, I don’t see our Hawkeyes winning by more than three touchdowns.

That’s okay if it’s the backup defense giving up the final touchdown . What is more important is the opportunity to get some of Iowa’s younger players some playing time.

To an extent, it doesn’t really matter how well the backups play. I say to an extent, because Iowa doesn’t want to be forced to put their starters back in. Short of that however, the backups performance doesn’t really matter much.

I know that a lot of fans would prefer to have a middle tier SEC team rather than a MAC team scheduled, but these games serve as an important opportunity for the Iowa football team. The Iowa football program is a developmental program and to truly develop some of those less hyped players, you need to get them game time experience.

If the Iowa football team has Spencer Petras or Peyton Mansell under center at any point of the because of a huge Iowa lead, I think that I, along with the majority of Hawkeye fans, would be pretty happy Sunday morning.
