As expected, 2018 running back recruit Henry Geil has entered the transfer portal after falling down the Iowa football team’s depth chart.

A few weeks ago, it was noted that Henry Geil wasn’t on the 110-man fall roster for the Iowa football team, which led us to speculate that he would likely be leaving the team.

Now, as first reported by David Eickholt, the redshirt freshman running back has officially entered the transfer portal.

What’s next for the Green Bay, Wisconsin product though?

Coming out of high school, Geil was listed as a 3-star running back who held 8 offers. His offer list included Iowa State, Michigan State, Indiana, Western Michigan.

Wherever he lands, he will almost certainly need to sit out a year, giving him three years to compete for a job.

Here are three places he could look to play:

Wisconsin

The Badgers didn’t offer the Iowa football recruit coming out of high school, but they are likely going to be losing Jonathon Taylor after this season, and they will need to replace his incredible production. In the past two recruiting classes, they have had just two running back commits, and they do not currently have a commit in the class of 2020. It’s closer to home, and it’s with a Big Ten team that likes to run the ball.

Western Michigan

Playing for the Broncos might be a quicker and easier route to more playing time for the former Iowa football player. Western Michigan currently has two redshirt seniors listed on their two-deeps with a few guys in the past two recruiting classes ready to compete next year, but the point is, there is an opportunity with a program who liked Geil enough coming out of high school to offer and its also not too far away from home.

Community College

Geil could look to hop on a community college roster quick to get some playing time and tape to show for next year and not have to sit out a full year of playing football.

Wherever Geil does end up, he’s unfortunately not leaving at a very good time. With college football already started, rosters are full and teams aren’t looking to bring in guys right now.

Regardless, we wish the best for the former Iowa football back and look forward to watching his career at another location.
