Ricky Stanzi/Derrell Johnson-Koulianos

I’m not going to lie, it was really tough to not put Marvin McNutt here. In fact, I did have McNutt here with Stanzi and as I was writing up the piece about McNutt and Stanzi, it tugged at me that Derrell Johnson-Koulianos was connecting with Ricky Stanzi for all three of his seasons as a starter for the Iowa football team while McNutt only came on the last two years. So here we are.

During their three seasons connecting together on the football field, Johnson-Koulianos (also known as DJK) led the team in receptions and receiving yards twice and touchdown receptions once.

The connection between him and Ricky Stanzi was evident and that connection led to DJK being named Second Team All-Big Ten his junior season and First Team All-Big Ten his senior season.

What’s most telling about this connection though is that at the conclusion of each of these guy’s Iowa football careers, their names were on many Iowa football leaderboards.

Stanzi is third in touchdowns and passing yards and DJK is second in receptions and receiving yards.
