The Iowa football team has the potential to be a College Football Playoff sleeper team, and Bovada agrees as they have now released betting odds for Iowa.

The chances of the Iowa football team making the College Football Playoffs are pretty slim, I’ll admit, but there is still a chance. Since the College Football Playoff was introduced earlier this decade, the Hawks have come close, literally losing their opportunity in the final few seconds of the Big Ten Championship game.

That 2015 team was a gritty team that won a lot of close games. Although we have yet to see the 2019 team play, on paper, they appear to have more star-power and overall talent than that 2015 team did, but the schedule is significantly more difficult. The Big Ten West is much improved, and the majority of the Iowa football team’s most difficult opponents will be at home when the Hawks play them.

Despite this, it appears that Bovada believes there is a chance, albeit incredibly minuscule, that the Iowa football team does make a run.

Their recently released odds on making the College Football Playoff included the Hawks, who came in at +6600 odds meaning if you bet $1 and the Iowa football team makes the playoffs, you get $67 in return.

While those odds are set that high for a reason (i.e. Bovada ultimately doesn’t believe Iowa will make the playoffs), this is a great bet for anyone who believes in this team.

We are one of those groups as we listed a while back our three reasons the Iowa football program could be a sleeper contender for the playoffs, and if they manage to survive their daunting away schedule, there will be no questions about them actually be talented enough. As one of our contributors wrote though, it’s time for the Hawkeyes to step up to the plate and make people respect them this year.
