In a surprising move, the Packers released long-time defensive tackle and former Iowa football player Mike Daniels. Here are three possible landing spots.

Former Iowa football player Mike Daniels has been with the Green Bay Packers for seven seasons after being selected in the 4th round of the 2002 NFL Draft.

In that time, he has been one of the best and most consistent defensive players for the Packers amassing 236 total tackles and 29 sacks and 49 tackles for loss. It’s a big reason why the defensive end/defensive tackle tweener received a 4 year/$41 million extension back in December of 2015.

Yet, all good things must come to an end and with the Packers investing heavily on the defensive side of the ball this offseason, there just wasn’t much room left for the 30-year old Daniels, and his $10.7 million cap hit.

By releasing Daniels now, he is only costing the Packers $2.4 million in dead cap space while saving them $8.3 million.

Now, for the first time in his career, Daniels is a bonafide free agent ready to sign, ideally, as soon as possible with preseason games just around the corner.

What are the three most likely destinations for the star defensive lineman? Let’s take a look.
