Oklahoma Sooners

At first glance, you may be wondering how in the hell Oklahoma made this list?

Well, weirdly enough there is some history between these two schools despite having only played two games against each other in their storied histories.

Like Missouri, the last time the Iowa football team took on Oklahoma was at the Insight Bowl back in 2011, and before that, it was way back in 1968.

These programs have obviously changed quite a bit since then, but the paths of these two programs have been intertwined since the Hayden Fry days.

Legendary Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops played for the Iowa football team in the early ’80s before joining the program as an assistant. After a little over a decade, he worked his way up to being the head coach of Oklahoma. He’s since retired, but his culture and principles are still entrenched in the program with former disciple Lincoln Riley.

Another connection is through George Kittle’s dad, Bruce who served as an assistant coach for the Sooners from 2010 to 2013. Bruce also happened to play with Stoops at Iowa in the early ’80s.

Again, Bruce is no longer there, but the connection and it would be a ridiculously entertaining game watching Oklahoma’s high-flying aerial attack go against the Iowa football team’s traditional ground-and-pound game and strong defense.

It would also give the Iowa football team another strong non-conference opponent that could be used when trying to position themselves for a possible College Football Playoff run.
