Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame should just be a Big Ten school, but it’s too profitable for them to remain independent, and they don’t have to worry about surviving the daunting Big Ten schedule of nine conference games.

Even though they will likely never join the Big Ten, I think a matchup versus the Fighting Irish would be a blast, and I even know the neutral site to do it; Chicago, Illinois.

As Rob Howe of Hawkeye Nation articulated in his quote tweet, Barta said the Hawkeyes are open to a neutral site. Chicago is perfect for this big-time game. It’s a short drive for both schools, and an opportunity to face off against Notre Dame would have Iowa football fans coming out in droves.

And it’s not a new concept. In fact, outside of Iowa State, the Hawks have played Notre Dame more than any other school not in the Big Ten, but these two iconic schools haven’t played each other since 1968.

Two legendary teams with great fan bases entrenched in tradition would be fantastic in September.
